Check Lowest Price As a content creator always on the lookout for ways to up my game, I was intrigued when I heard about the DJI Osmo Mobile 6. As a compact and foldable smartphone stabilizer, it seemed like the perfect device to help me create professional-grade video without breaking the bank on expensive equipment. Design and features The Osmo Mobile 6 boasts a sleek Slate Gray color, an ergonomic design that fits comfortably in my hand, and an anti-slip grip for added stability. It's also foldable, which makes it easy to store and transport. One of the standout features for me is the built-in extension rod. It's perfect for capturing dynamic angles and selfies, and gives me the ability to put some distance between myself and the camera while recording self-facing video. The extension rod stretches 8.46 inches, which gives me plenty of room to play around with different angles. The Osmo Mobile 6 also includes ActiveTrack 5.0 software, which locks the camera onto a subject and keeps it centered no matter where you or the subject moves. This is a game-changer for me as it allows me to focus on my performance while the Osmo Mobile 6 takes care of the stability of the shot. The DJI Mimo app is a great companion to the Osmo Mobile 6, offering shooting guides for a range of scenarios, as well as video tutorials to help me get the most out of the device. And for those times when I need to edit on the fly, the LightCut app provides AI-powered one-tap editing and exclusive video templates. The controls on the Osmo Mobile 6 make it easy to zoom in on subjects, pan, and create hyperlapses or stories. And with the accompanying app, I can even switch between four modes and access secret modes with special moves. In terms of size and weight, the Osmo Mobile 6 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, the OM 5, but it's still compact enough to fit in a carrying bag. It takes about 1 hour and 24 minutes to charge and can operate for up to 6 hours and 24 minutes in ideal conditions. Additional features In addition to the features I've already mentioned, the Osmo Mobile 6 has a mounting port for counterweights on the side of the roll motor, as well as a DJI Mic with powerful anti-interference and 250 m wireless transmission for crystal clear audio. That's why I was excited to try out the DJI OM 5 smartphone gimbal stabilizer. Design and Build Quality First impressions count for a lot, and the DJI OM 5 did not disappoint in this department. Its sleek and upgraded design immediately caught my eye, with its more traditional handgrip taking up less space than its predecessor, the OM 4. The gimbal is also lightweight and easy to carry around, weighing in at 290g before adding the clamp and phone. The materials used in the OM 5's construction are top-notch and exude a sense of premium quality. The gimbal feels solid and well-built, and I have no doubt that it will hold up well over time. One of the standout features of the OM 5 is its built-in extension rod, which can be used for flawless selfies and dynamic low-angle shooting. This is a great addition that gives me more breathing room from my phone, and I can see it being very useful in certain shooting situations. Other notable design aspects of the OM 5 include its thumbstick, power button, zoom slider, and USB-C charging port. These are all easy to access and use, and make it simple to control the gimbal and switch between shooting modes. Performance and Stabilization When it comes to performance, the DJI OM 5 does not disappoint. Its three-axis stabilization does an excellent job of compensating for hand movement, and I was able to capture smooth and stable footage with ease. The gimbal also has various shooting modes and customizable settings that allow me to achieve different creative looks. For example, I was able to use the Mimo app's automatic stitched panoramas to capture sweeping vistas, and the gimbal's dynamic zoom feature allowed me to add some visual interest to my shots. One area where the OM 5 falls a bit short is its battery life, which is shorter than the OM 4's at 6.5 hours of use from a full tank. This isn't a deal breaker for me, but it is something to keep in mind if you plan on using the gimbal for extended periods of time. Features and Functionality One feature that really sets the DJI OM 5 apart from other gimbals is its ShotGuides feature, which provides creative tips and tutorials to help users master every shot. As someone who is always looking to improve my videography skills, I really appreciated this added bonus. The OM 5 is also very easy to set up and use, with intuitive controls and a straightforward setup process. The gimbal comes with a number of useful accessories, such as a magnetic clamp, tripod, power cable, wrist strap, and storage pouch, which is a nice added bonus. One potential issue with the OM 5 is its compatibility with different smartphone models. While it is compatible with a wide range of devices, including the iPhone 11 and above, Huawei P50 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S22, it is not compatible with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and barely compatible with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This may be a deal breaker for some users, so it's worth considering before making a purchase. The OM 5 also has Bluetooth connectivity, which allows me to control it using the Mimo app. This gives me access to additional features and functionality, such as automated panoramic photos and smooth video. Price and Value In terms of price, the DJI OM 5 is slightly on the pricier side compared to other gimbals on the market. However, I believe that it offers excellent value for money considering its performance, features, and overall build quality. The gimbal feels like a premium device, with its curves and organic design, and I have no doubt that it will hold up well over time. One thing to keep in mind is that some additional costs are associated with the OM 5, such as the Fill Light Phone Clamp, which retails for about $59. While this is an optional accessory, it is a helpful tool for vloggers and content creators who want to add extra light to their shots. Modes Pan Follow Mode: Tilt & Roll axis are locked. Pan axis rotates smoothly with turn of wrist. Use joystick up & down to control tilt angle of camera. Full Follow Mode: In this mode the gimbal will move both vertically and horizontally smoothing out you movements. Locked Mode: Roll axis is locked. Pan and Tilt axis smoothly follow handle. Use joystick left and right to adjust the horizon angle. Selfie Mode: Flips the camera around from front facing to rear facing.
